The Natural Remedies You Need for the Winter Months

Oak tree limb with the words "the natural remedies you need for the winter months."

We’ve all been there. You decide you want to start treating sicknesses naturally instead of with drug store medication. But then the time comes. Someone gets sick and you don’t have anything prepared yet. So, yet again, you grab your Tylenol and Robitussin instead of the herbs and natural remedies that you were planning on using. That changes this year. I’m going to share the natural remedies you need for the winter months in this post so you can stock up now and be prepared.

Oak tree limb with the words "The natural remedies you need for the winter months."

Last winter I decided I wanted to treat any sicknesses that came up with natural remedies. The only problem with that was that I never got the things I needed to do that. So, when those sicknesses happened, I had to rely on conventional medicines. I didn’t want to take the time to do the research. Nor did I want to wait for the things I needed to come in. So I just went to the store and got the things I was familiar with. That was especially the case when I was the one who was sick. There was no way I had the energy to figure out what herbs I needed when I wasn’t feeling well.

This year, that will be different. I will get the things I need ahead of time so I actually have them when they’re needed. I don’t know if this is a goal of yours as well. But I figured I’d share my list on here anyway. Maybe you aren’t planning on treating any sicknesses with natural remedies, but this post might pique your interest into that realm of health.

why i’m interested in getting natural remedies for the winter months

If that’s you and you aren’t planning on using natural remedies, you might be wondering why I’m interested in getting natural remedies for the winter months. If you read this post of mine from last week, you might get the impression that I’m not a fan of western medicine. While that’s true in part, it’s not the whole truth. Western medicine is great when it’s needed. I’m not ignorant to the fact that it’s life saving in times of emergencies. However, I think we’ve grown to rely on it too much, even in times when it really isn’t necessary.

I talked about holistic health in that post. Holistic health is the idea that all parts of the body affect each other and should be treated as a whole. Western medicine fails at doing that. It simply focuses on one organ, one system, one symptom and treats it as an individual thing. This leads to band-aid solutions instead of true healing.

In the case of winter-time sicknesses, most of the medications we take to help them just cover up the symptoms. For example, tylenol doesn’t get rid of the infection that’s causing a fever. It just lowers the body’s temperature. However, the body is producing a fever in order to get rid of that infection.

Fevers are good things and a part of the normal process of the immune system.

As bad as they make us feel, we shouldn’t take things to get rid of them. When we do that, we’re only prolonging the infection because we’re interrupting the immune system’s natural response to take care of it on its own. The better thing to do is to give your body things that will aid in its natural processes. The human body is equipped with everything it needs to be healthy. We just have to support it. Enter: natural remedies.

the natural remedies you need for the winter months

So, without further ado, here are the natural remedies you need for the winter months:

herbal remedies

Feel Better Fast tincture

This tincture includes echinacea, fennel seed, astragalus root, elder flower, and cinnamon. It’s great for supporting the immune system, calming an upset stomach, supporting fever, and reducing inflammation.

Elderberry Elixir

Elderberry is the OG immune support herb. This elixir is even more powerful than elderberry alone because it also contains other complementary herbs. It has elderberry, mullein, clove, ginger, astragalus root, orange peel, and calendula. Those herbs make this elixir great for immune support, vitamin C, lung support, reducing inflammation, and calming the body.

Nourish Her Naturally

This tincture is essentially an herbal multivitamin that nurtures the female body. It includes nettle leaf, red raspberry leaf, dandelion leaf, catnip leaf, alfalfa leaf, and spearmint leaf. These herbs are all great for the female body and provide vitamins and minerals, support kidney, liver, gut, and nerve health, manage blood sugar regulation, and help to balance hormones. It’s a great tincture to take throughout the winter for general support and to keep the body strong.

Sleepy Time herbal extract

This is a great one to have on hand for those nights where you’re so sick it’s hard to fall asleep. It contains catnip which is a mild sedative that calms and relieves the body. It also has skullcap which soothes the nervous system and reduces inflammation. And finally, it contains passionflower which promotes calm moods and relieves anxious feelings.

Infant Tummy Relief tincture

I think the name says it all. This tincture contains ginger, fennel, and catnip. Those three herbs are good at relieving gas, calming upset stomachs, reducing inflammation, and supporting healthy digestion.

Anti-Inflammatory herbal extract

This is a great one to take in place of Tylenol whenever a fever is present. It will bring some relief to the body without getting in the way of the immune response. It contains cinnamon, ginger, orange peel, motherwort, and echinacea. All of those herbs are good for gut health, reducing inflammation (obviously), relieving pain, and supporting the immune system.

Immune-Biotic tincture

A great tincture to have in your medicine cabinet to give your body some extra immune support during times of sickness. It contains elderflower, astragalus root, echinacea root, calendula, and dandelion root. These herbs are rich in antioxidants, reduce inflammation, balance blood sugar, and support the immune system.

Breathe Well salve

If you don’t know, a salve is a mixture of herbs and wax that you rub onto your body. There are a large number of things you can use salves for, but this one is specifically designed to help with congestion, coughs, and stuffy noses. It contains lemon, rosalina, balm mint, and clary sage essential oils.

Nourish Him Naturally

Similarly to Nourish Her Naturally above, this tincture is designed to nourish the male body and give it the vitamins and nutrients it needs. It contains Nettle Leaf, Saw Palmetto Berry, Hawthorn Berry, Ashwagandha Root, and Turmeric Root. These herbs are rich in vitamins and minerals. They also support hormone balance, heart, adrenal, liver, and prostate health, and reduce inflammation.

Herbal Throat Spray

This spray soothes sore throats and relieves irritation. It contains peppermint, echinacea, elderflower, lemon balm, and mullein. All of those herbs are great for immune system support and respiratory health, and also contain antiviral properties.

Earache Ease

This serum contains mullein leaf and olive oil. The mullein is a pain reliever and antibacterial herb. The olive oil acts to soften the earwax and ease discomfort. All you have to do is place a couple drops into the affected ear and let it sit for five minutes.

essential oils & essential oil products

Thieves essential oil blend

This essential oil blend is specifically designed for immune support. It contains clove, lemon, cinnamon bark, eucalyptus radiata, and rosemary. Diffusing this will purify the air, provide breathing support, and support the immune system.

Thieves roll-on

This is the same blend as above, but it comes in a roller bottle. That allows you to rub it on your spine for added immune support, or on your chest for added respiratory support.

Thieves Hard Lozenges

These lozenges contain the Thieves blend. They are a great thing to have on hand to pop in your mouth whenever you have a dry and itchy throat.

Thieves Cough Drops

Similarly, these cough drops contain the Thieves blend and are great to have on hand if you have a cough, sore throat, or congested sinuses. What makes them different from the hard lozenges is that they also contain menthol which provides a strong cooling and clearing effect.

Thieves Chest Rub

This chest rub combines thieves, menthol, and eucalyptus to make a cleaner and safer version of Vicks VapoRub.

other supplements

Inner Defense

This supplement uses oregano, thyme, and thieve to promote healthy respiratory function and support the immune system.

Immugummies

A new addition to Young Living’s immunity line up, these gummies contain elderflower and elderberry to create a yummy immune supporting gummy. All you need to do is take 2 gummies daily.

Super C chewables & tablets

We all know how good vitamin C is for the immune system. Here is a great clean, whole food vitamin C supplement. The vitamins in the tablets are sourced from citrus peel oils, and the vitamins in the chewables are from acerola cherries and rose hip fruit powder. I’ll always suggest getting your vitamin C from food, but in the winter that can be hard to do, especially if you live in Ohio like me.

Super D tablets

Again, we all know that vitamin D is good for the immune system. This is a great vitamin D supplement sourced from essential oils high in the vitamin. Like I said for vitamin C, I always suggest getting vitamin D straight from the best source: the sun. However, it’s nearly impossible to get enough in the winter months for most people, so supplementation may be necessary and this is a great option!

Cod Liver Oil

I also love Cod Liver Oil for vitamin D since it’s a whole food source. It’s also high in vitamin A and omega-3 fatty acids, so it holds a lot of nutritional power in one supplement which makes it great for the budget!

Life 9 Probiotic

70% of your immune system is located in your gut. If you want a strong immune system, you need to also strengthen the beneficial bacteria in the gut. This probiotic contains 17 billion live cultures from nine beneficial bacteria strains.
